How to Prepare for Senior Photos

What to Wear for your Session

Why I believe in Prints

Once upon a time…

(Yes, we’re starting fairy tale style because this is a love story.)

Toddler girl in a pink dress sitting in the grass surrounded by plastic Easter Eggs and flowers, smiling at the camera in soft natural light.

This was the photo.

It was Easter. My daughter was one.

I wrangled some plastic eggs, found a flower-filled corner of Auburn University’s campus, and sat her in a smocked dress with the afternoon light just right.

I had just picked up my first DSLR and thought, “Let’s see what happens.”

I took the photos. And then I did something that changed everything:

I printed them.

Wallet-size, from a professional lab, glossy and glowing and real.

And when I held those prints in my hand, I thought:

“Oh my gosh… I’m a photographer.”

That was the moment I felt it.

Not because I took the photo, but because I could hold it.

Fast-forward through five kids, many moves, and every backup system known to man…

I’ve stored my photos on clouds, drives, second drives, and backups of backups. I’m a hoarder of memories, I photograph everything, every day, just in case.

And still, I’ve lost things.

Hard drives have failed.

Files have vanished.

I even accidentally deleted my youngest son’s birth photos (yes, I got them back, but it cost me and nearly broke me).

Digital is fragile.

But print? Print is forever.

The photos we hold are the ones that stay with us.

My daughter remembers her baby photos because they’re printed, in a little book we flip through.

She’s seen them. They live in our home. They live in her memory.

The digital photos … the ones I lovingly edited and saved to some folder?

She doesn’t even recognize them.

We remember what we hold.

We connect to what we see on our walls, in our frames, in our albums.

That’s why I build print into the core of every senior session I offer.

This isn’t about sales. This is about service.

I’m not here to sell what’s trendy.

I’m not picking products based on price margins or speed.

I’ve tried that, believe me. I’ve tested the quick-turn labs, the budget options, the “everyone uses this” products. And most of them? I’ve sent right back.

Because that’s not the heart of what I do.

I’m here to give you something beautiful.

Something I would be proud to own myself.

Something your child will hold someday and feel seen, valued, and stunning.

This isn’t just about printing a photo.

It’s about creating a piece of your story.

It’s the confidence in your daughter’s voice when she says, “Wow. That’s me.”

It’s the softness in your chest when you flip through a handcrafted album and think, “This is the little human I raised.”

This is your legacy.

This is the moment that marks the end of one chapter and the start of another.

And it deserves to be preserved.

Senior year is a core memory.

This is the last time they’ll live in your house as your baby. The last school milestone. The closing of childhood.

And as parents, we only get 18 years of that. We get the rest of our lives to love and know them as adults.

But the childhood part? It’s short.

And this moment, this celebration, deserves more than a download button.

It deserves to be printed.

Framed. Displayed. Cherished.

So yes, you’ll get digital files because those are convenient and important, too.

But you’ll also walk away with something real.

Art that reflects the moment and something you will hold onto long after it’s gone.

Ready to make sure your child’s senior year doesn’t disappear into the cloud? Let’s preserve it in a way they’ll actually remember (and want to show off).

Yes, I’m a mom of five with a lot of feelings. But I’m also a photographer who knows how to make this FUN. So let’s dry the tears, fluff the hair, and talk about what’s next:
